While searching for First Observer information on the web I came across this informative bulletin.

http://www.surfacetransportationisac.org/SupDocs/Library/ISAC_Products/Cloned%20Vehicles.pdf

If this does not appear as a link, you will have to copy and paste it into your browser. It explains the need to be aware of "clone" or fake company and agency vehicles. A most enlightening article out of the Highway ISAC.

Thanks

This is something I never even suspected.  A couple of months I noticed a Hispanic-looking man driving a tractor-trailer in Denver with misspelled words.

One possible problem, particularly in L.A. and NYC, is that the movie productions will use false markings for the movies and TV shows.

Every year thousands of surplus emergency vehicles are sold "as is". A little paint, some decals and a light bar purchased from a catalog and you have your very own police car, ambulance or fire truck !  And school buses are even easier to put back together; paint a phony name on the side and you are ready to go.  The descriptions and photos of the service vehicles being cloned were great.  I plan on using this material as part of my next bus driver refresher course.

I really look at vehicles since I read that. I feel that something is coming but we have know idea when, so we all better get on board and pay attention to what's going on. Look at the news in other countries, wake up people.

As a former LAIDLAW Co. driver when the Orlando yard closed we repainted many of the buses back
to yellow school colors. I then delivered several of them to little rock Ar. while enroute every morning we had to be very careful as any school children along the road would think we were their
bus even tho there was no name on the side. the kids were so busy talking to them selves ,all thay
were looking for was big and yellow. we thought about stoping to see how many would get on, then bettering thinking took over and didn't. some of the kids even would even wave their hands and yell thinking we had passed them up.

I work for FMCSA as a contractor in one of the Border States. I'm also a member of GWRRA and ride my Gold Wing all over the South West.  I found this document very interesting and informative.  I'm going to share it with my Gold Wing club.  This will give my co-rider something to do besides rubber-necking. Grin  The border is getting more dangerous by the day.  Drug dealers are getting more ingenious by the day too.  It's scary to know that kids could be taken by someone driving a fake school bus.
